Norwegian Research Part 12 - Reider Toralf Bakke

Part 12 - Norwegian research I'll now have a look for Adolf Olsen Bakke and Jensine Fredrikke Charlotte Jensen 's marriage.  I already know it was on 11 Feb 1883 in Trefoldighet parish, Christiania from FamilySearch, so it is an easy matter  to go to Digitalarkivet, find the Oslo parish registers and click on the Trefoldighet registers for the appropriate time period and find the one with marriages. About 30 seconds to find this one! MARRIAGE OF ADOLF OLSEN BAKKE & JENSINE FREDRIKKE CHARLOTTE JENSEN: Trefoldighet parish register 1881-1891 image 38 1883, no. 14, 11 Feb, Adolf Olsen Bakk e, snedkersvend of Fjeldegade 19, born Christiania 1859, confirmed Eidsvoll 1872 and Jensine Fredrikke Charlotte Jensen of Pilestrædet 7, born Christiania 1864, confirmed Trefoldighet Bridegroom's father: snedker (joiner, cabinetmaker) Ole Bakke Bride's father: arb. Part 11 - Norwegian research I can also see an index telling me Adolf has a confirmation record in 1873 in Eidsvoll parish, so I'll look that up in the parish registers.  Eidsvoll parish is not within Christiania, but a rural parish just ou tside, so after I have selected 'Digitised Parish Registers' from the home page, I need to select under 'Velg fylke:' 'Akershus', the rural county next to Christiania. The index has told me the confirmation is in the Klokkerbok for Eidsvoll prestegjeld 1871-1877, so I can go straight to the correct register and click on confirmations for 1873. Found on image 132, it says: 12th Oct 1873, no. 19, Adolf Bakke born 19 Jul 1859, born Christiania, residence: Dønum. http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1450-kb20060309010075.jpg&siz=full www.arkivverket.no www.arkivverket.no Unlike

Part 10 - Norwegian research There is also another census for 1910 for Adolf and his family: FOLKETELLING 1910 FOR CHRISTIANIA KJØPSTAD Hølandsgate 17, forhus, 2, Kampen menighet, Kristiania Adolf Bakke born 19.7.1859 Kristiania, married, snedkervend (joiner/cabinetmaker journeyman?) Karen Bakke born 31.5.1862 Kristiania, married, Husetstel Karl Halvorsen born 10.2.1882 Kristiania, stepson, unmarried, smed (blacksmith) Snefrid Bakke born 3.1.1895 Kristiania, daughter, unmarried, Sokolade Arb Borghild Bakke born 4.4.1899 Kristiania, daughter, unmarried Rolf Bakke, born 20.5.1905 Kristiania, son, unmarried Birger Bakke born 25.4.1909 Kristiania, son, unmarried So it appears Adolf has a new wife, Karen , who has a son Karl. There are also a couple more sons born after Adolf's first wife's death so I'll presume their mother is Karen for now. Part 9 - Norwegian research Time to check what digitalarkivet has on Adolf Olsen Bakke . I've entered his name (as Adolf Bakke) in the 'Search the sources'. He appears in the 1885 census for Fjeldgade 19, Petrus' congregation, Christiania , along with his father's family. FOLKETELLING 1885 FOR CHRISTIANIA KJØPSTAD Fjeldgade 19, Petrus' Menighed Ole Andersen Bakke , born 1829 Blakjer, snedker (joiner/cabinetmaker) Juliane Bakke , born 1827 Sørkedalen, his wife Oskar Bakke , born 1862 Eidsvold, snedker på Hovedjerbanens Verksted Sofie Amalie Bakke , born 1865 Eidsvold, daughter Kristian Larsen , born 1832 Kristiania, handelsborger Johane Larsen b.1833 Kristiania, his wife Anna Marie Hansen , born 1870 Bærum, servant Ole Olsen , born 1856 Gudbransdalen, arbeider ved Veivesenet Mathilde Olsen , born 1854 Saaler, his wife Ole Gunnerious Olsen , born 1880 Kristiania, son Kristine Mathilde Olsen , born 1882 Kristiania, daughter Johannes Ludvig Olsen , born 1885 K...

Norwegian Research Part 8 - Reider Toralf Bakke

Part 8 - Norwegian research I should mention here that Adolf's wife's name differs in various records. So far she is recorded as Jensine Fredrikke Charlotte Jensen, Charlotte Jensen, Charlotte Holm and Charlotte Bakke . Where the 'Holm' comes into it, I don't know, either an error, or most likely will be her father's name, even though he was recorded as ' Lauritz Jensen ' in her marriage record. Although it is more likely in the late 1800s, never expect a Norwegian (or worse Danish!) name to be the same from one record to another. Their names will always be 'within the rules', but the rules are extensive! And spelling is all in the hand of the scribe. I've never found naming to be a problem, in fact it is often very helpful - there are a lot of clues in names. Norwegian research Part 7 - Reider Toralf Bakke

Part 7 - Norwegian research Time to work out what these entries in familysearch mean when they say 'Oslo, Oslo' for a parish name. Signe Marie Bakke was baptised and buried in 'Oslo, Oslo' and the source citation for the baptism tells me t he film number is 1282504. I can check the LDS catalogue for Oslo, Norway and enter the film number and see what parishes come up. Only two, and only one of those has baptisms in 1889, the year I am looking for, and it is Kampen. Now I can look for Reidar's baptism, which I still haven't found on familysearch. Back to the Digital Archives of Norway, positive I will now find Reidar's baptism in the Kampen parish register. As I know he was born abt 1893, I'll start in 1892 and work through to 1894. Kampen is a big city parish, hence I am reluctant to trawl through pages of baptisms without good reason, and in the back of my mind I am wondering why he is not on familysearch if other older siblings baptised in Kampen ar...
