Albox file boxes - great for archiving certificates and documents

Image
At our Genealogy Sunshine Coast Resource Centre in Petrie Park, Nambour, we stock a whole range of Albox archival storage products.  This file box with filing rings is ideal to store your original birth, death and marriage certificates. With the new foolscap sized sleeves, it is a safe way to keep them safe from insects, dust and wear and tear. The box opens up easily to leaf through the files, and closes up securely for storage on a shelf.  Several sizes are available.

Finding a baptism for Jens Peter Christiansen

Danish ancestors – post 6:  Using  www.arkivalieronline.dk  – The Danish State Archives online parish registers website. You can also view scans of original census records on this site. There are instructions on the first page in English, an d once you click on that you will see ‘Generic Instructions’, which are also in English. Ignore the first 12 pages of this as a password is no longer required so there is no ‘set up’ required anymore, apart from ensuring you have Java installed on your computer. Most likely you already do. The rest of it is excellent.  To find the page showing Jens Peter Christiansen’s baptism: On the first (home) page, click on ‘Kirkebøger’ Then click on ‘Søg i kirkebøger’ Click on down arrow beside ‘Hent Amt’ (pink box), click on ‘Bornholm’ Click on down arrow beside ‘Hent Sogn’ , click on ‘Åkirkeby’ (last one) Now all the parish registers scanned and available for viewing for that parish will appear. The family of Jens Peter Christiansen

Danish ancestors – post 5:  A search of the Nyker parish register for a few years either side of 1852 doesn’t show up any Jens Peter Christiansens, so we will have to assume the Jens Peter born in Aakirkeby (nowadays Åkirkeby) is the right  one for now. His baptism (entry no. 4) appears below and tells us he was born on the 26 May 1852 and baptised in church on 11 July the same year. His father was mason, Christian Christiansen and mother, Maren Margrethe age 37, of Bygade (street in Åkirkeby). The baby was held by the mother at the font and godparents were all of Aakirkeby. Jens Peter was vaccinated (for smallpox) on 13 July 1853 by Dr. Grove. I don’t know if you can get a close up view of the page, but if you can you will notice from the other entries that this was a time of confusion when it came to naming, and in this parish it seems the parish minister was happy to go with whatever the parents wanted.  The first child is Niels Clemmend Jense

Researching Jens Peter Christensen of Denmark

Michelle has been posting all of this information on Danish research on our Genealogy Sunshine Coast Facebook page.. but we thought we would add it to our blog as well. Danish ancestors post 4:  The Danish Emigration Archives tells us Jens Peter Christensen was born abt 1852, possibly in Nyker parish on the island of Bornholm.   The Queensland historical death indexes tell us that Jens Peter’s parents were  Christian Christiansen and Maren Margrethe. From here, I could go straight to searching the Nyker parish register, but to make it easier, I’ll check  www.familysearch.org  to see if his baptism is there – and lucky I did, because he was actually baptised in Aakirkeby parish on Bornholm: Denmark, Baptisms, 1618-1923 Name: Jens Peter Christiansen Gender: Male Baptism/Christening Date: 11 Jul 1852 Baptism/Christening Place: , AAKIRKEBY, BORNHOLM, DENMARK Father's Name: Christian Christiansen Mother's Name: Maren Margrethe Indexing Project (Batch) Number: C
