Finding a baptism for Jens Peter Christiansen

Danish ancestors – post 6:
Using www.arkivalieronline.dk – The Danish State Archives online parish registers website. You can also view scans of original census records on this site.

There are instructions on the first page in English, an
d once you click on that you will see ‘Generic Instructions’, which are also in English. Ignore the first 12 pages of this as a password is no longer required so there is no ‘set up’ required anymore, apart from ensuring you have Java installed on your computer. Most likely you already do. The rest of it is excellent.

To find the page showing Jens Peter Christiansen’s baptism:

On the first (home) page, click on ‘Kirkebøger’
Then click on ‘Søg i kirkebøger’
Click on down arrow beside ‘Hent Amt’ (pink box), click on ‘Bornholm’
Click on down arrow beside ‘Hent Sogn’, click on ‘Åkirkeby’ (last one)
Now all the parish registers scanned and available for viewing for that parish will appear.
Click on ‘Akirkeby 1846-1875’ – the x tells us this register contains births (fødte) and deaths (døde)

A page will come up with opslags 1 to 162. Change the size setting up the top to 50% instead of 100%.

Click on ‘opslag 12’, wait for it to download, and up will come the parish register page showing Jens Peter Christiansen’s birth/baptism entry.

To save a page, click on ‘Save as’ at the top, and save it to a place of your choosing.

I would name a file so I can find it again eg: Christiansen, Jens Peter b.1852 Åkirkeby, Bornholm, 1846-1875 opslag 12.

X out of the page to go back to make another selection.
Notice I don’t worry about the ‘Herred’ (district), in this case ‘Bornholm Søndre’.
The ‘Amt’ short for Amter, meaning ‘province/county’ and ‘Sogn’ meaning ‘parish’ are enough unless you are citing a source.
