Conserving precious family records

One of the most frequent questions we are asked is how to preserve precious family mementoes and fragile items.

We are not experts in this field, so all we can do is direct you to some websites which have useful information.

The link below is to the Australian Institute for Conservation of Cultural Material which has some very useful information and examples of restoration gone wrong...

With the frequency of disasters this summer right across Australia, it is timely to find out those precious items held by your family and learn how to at least digitise them where possible by scanning, and to store them as safely as possible ( preferably not close to areas that flood or are inundated by tidal surges.

We hold regular scanning days to digitise our own collections at Genealogy Sunshine Coast and many of our volunteers have learnt how to preserve their own collections as part of this process.

Come and see us if you want to learn more.. the time to act is now...
